President Donald Trump is renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. But how will that change go into effect – and will everyone call it that?
President Donald Trump issued an executive order changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
The owner of Gulfofamerica.com remains unknown but the website – it sells maps, globes and other gear – is registered to domain registrar NameBright.
President Trump said he will sign executive orders to change the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America and Mount Denali to Mount McKinley.
Donald Trump's attempts to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America has not yet been acknowledged by map services.
The order Trump signed instructs the Interior Department to update the Geographic Names Information System to reflect the renaming of the Gulf and remove all references to the Gulf of Mexico. It says all federal references to the Gulf of America, including on agency maps, contracts, and other documents and communications shall reflect the renaming.
Among the first executive orders signed by President Donald Trump was an order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the newly named "Gulf of America." "President Trump is bringing common sense to government and renewing the pillars of American civilization," the newly inaugurated president's executive order said.
The deployment was ordered after the Trump administration signaled its intent to rename the Gulf of Mexico and moved quickly to fire the Coast Guard commandant.

Part of a legal description of a boundary line of Dixie County, for instance, says it goes “southerly down the thread of the main stream of said Suwannee River to the Gulf of Mexico; thence along said Gulf of Mexico, including the waters of said gulf within the jurisdiction of the State of Florida, to the mouth of the Steinhatchee River.”
Gulf of America” seems likely to become one of those phrases only Republicans use, joining “Democrat Party,” “job creators” and “death tax.”
